OUR June 1998 CELEBRITY HOME IS....

THE HOME OF Frank Sinatra

The Home:

Behind these gates just off Sunset Blvd. in Beverly Hills was where Frank Sinatra and his wife Barbara lived for the last two years until his recent death just a few weeks ago. The home, like Frank, was private. The wrought iron 'see through' fence had a solid sheeting placed behind it so that no one could peek into the estate. This picture was taken 2 weeks prior to Frank's passing, so the sheeting was not placed there just to keep cameras etc., from intruding at the time of his death; but in fact was already in place for some time. The home itself is over 5500 sqft on a 30,000+ sqft lot. It is a 4 bedroom 5 bath home with swimming pool and spa and nestled among some of the most elegant homes found in Beverly Hills.

The Biography:

Francis Albert Sinatra was born in Hoboken, New Jersey on December 12, 1915. He began his career as a saloon singer and eventually landed a singing gig with Harry James and then the Tommy Dorsey band. In 1942 his solo career started and he instantly became a huge success especially with young women of the time. Like one of his songs, 'That's Life,' Sinatra's career had it peaks and valleys and at one time was even considered to be over. But, Frank picked himself up, dusted himself off and got back in the race which soon found him in a supporting role in the film, 'From Here to Eternity' which landed him an academy award. That was the turning point in his career and it was only up, up and away from there on for Ol' Blue Eyes. With female stars we had Judy Garland and Ethel Merman and when they passed away, the torch was handed over to Barbra Streisand. With male singers however, no torch has been passed. Sinatra's passing has left a marked void in this contemporary vocal style of singing. In an interview taken over 20 years ago, Frank remarked that he wished someone would learn how to do what he did so that it would not be lost. Aside from his acting and singing career, Frank Sinatra is also credited for giving Vegas a shot in the arm and putting it on the map. Many Vegas insiders agree that Vegas today would not be the Vegas we know had it not been for Sinatra. Finally, Frank and his wife Barbara raised millions for charities and especially for the Barbara Sinatra Children's Clinic in Rancho Mirage California which helps needy children. In his will, Frank left over $100 million to the Clinic. It's hard to pick a favorite song that he did...but for certain, "You've Got Me Under Your Skin" would certainly be one of them. Frank and his wife Barbara lived in the Palm Springs area for the last 20 years until they moved to Beverly Hills two years ago. Frank was buried in a simple grave next to his mom and dad just outside Palm Springs, California. It is the same cemetery where Sonny Bono, William Powell and other celebrities have been laid to rest. Thank God, for his gift. Thank God we will always have his music. All I can say is, 'Frank, We've Got You, Under Our Skin!"
